Our Story
A taqueria built on honesty, masa, and a genuine love for Mexican food.
How It Started
Tequero Tacos was born out of a conviction that was simple but firm: Metro Manila deserved an honest Mexican taqueria. Not a franchise built around approximations, not a fusion concept chasing trends — but an unpretentious place where the food was made from scratch every single day and the atmosphere felt like a neighborhood cantina.
The founders chose Paseo de Magallanes in Makati — a stretch of Santiago Street that sits between office towers and residential blocks — and set up on the third floor of Oakridge Plaza. There was no grand signage, no marquee out front. Just an open kitchen, a hand-built menu, and a commitment to pressing fresh masa for every tortilla and every chip served.
The name "tequero" is a subtle play on the Spanish phrase te quiero — "I love you" — wrapped in the soul of a real taquero, the craftsman behind the taco. That double meaning lives in everything we do: every dish is made with genuine affection, and every guest is welcomed the way you welcome someone you care about.
What We Believe
We cook what's real, not what's popular. Our tortillas are made from masa. Our birria is slow-braised for hours. Our chips are never from a bag. We will always choose craft over convenience.
Our staff are attentive and genuinely warm. When guests say the service is excellent — and they do, consistently — that is not an accident. It is a daily choice our team makes in every interaction.
We have no neon sign out front and no aggressive social media push. We grow through word of mouth, through guests who bring friends, through the quiet loyalty of people who found something genuinely good and want to protect it.
Our tortillas and chips are made from scratch using masa — if we run out, we make more; we never substitute with store-bought.
We believe a taco should fill you up and leave an impression — fillings are always generous, never skimpy, never padded with filler.
Bold does not mean aggressive — our goal is flavor that is memorable without being overwhelming, complex without being confusing.
Tequero is not a fine-dining concept. We are a taqueria. Good food, fair service, an honest atmosphere — that is all we have ever wanted to be.
We are a neighborhood spot at heart — we want to be the place Makati locals bring their friends, celebrate quiet milestones, and unwind after a long week.
The Beginning
The founders — taco enthusiasts frustrated by the lack of authentic Mexican options in Makati — begin developing a menu centered on fresh masa and slow-cooked proteins.
Opening Day
Tequero Tacos opens on the third floor of Oakridge Plaza along Santiago Street, Paseo de Magallanes. No signage. No launch event. Just great tacos and an open kitchen.
Early Days
After months of refining the braising process, the birria taco earns its status as the house signature — slow-cooked, deeply flavored, and unlike anything else in the area.
Growing Up
The camaron (shrimp) and asada (beef) tacos debut and quickly develop loyal followings of their own, with guests often ordering both in a single visit.
Milestone
Tequero joins Foodpanda, bringing the fresh masa experience to guests who cannot make it to the third floor — but who still want the real thing delivered to their door.
Now
With a 4.7-star Google rating and a loyal community of guests who return week after week, Tequero stands as one of Makati's most genuinely loved spots for Mexican food.
